Peaceful Kids & Chair Yoga Program

The program includes a range of Mindfulness strategies, breathing exercises, Positive Psychology exercises, crafts that revolve around studied topics to make mindfulness a joyful experience for little ones, therapeutic stories that teach and heal, fun mindful movements, and guided meditation practice to lessen anxiety and stress.
Simple, effective, and proven exercises help students to stay calm, relaxed, focused, and therefore learn more effectively during the day. Additionally, chair yoga poses help children learn proper posture, increase strength and flexibility, strengthen core muscles, and focus better. Practical strategies for school breaks to refresh the mind or when feeling bored or tired and need that extra body movement and focus!

Children learn about:
- Physical symptoms and triggers of stress, how to identify situations when they need to take chill-out time to calm themselves down when feeling stressed or overwhelmed.
- Feelings - recognising, naming, understanding, and managing our feelings.
- Age-appropriate explanation of brain anatomy to understand the stress response and areas of the brain that are impacted by Mindfulness.
- The basic theory of Mindfulness and how the practice (formal and informal) affects the brain, lessens stress and anxiety and increases our ability to focus and concentrate.
- Different types of thinking that increase or lessen anxiety, and how worrying affects our happiness and brain.
- How to create a balanced lifestyle including lots of chill-out time, being in the flow and how to integrate Mindfulness and gratitude practice into our lives.
- Additionally, chair yoga poses help children learn proper posture, increase strength and flexibility, strengthen core muscles, and focus better. These poses can also help children to reduce stress and anxiety. Practical strategies for school breaks to refresh the mind or when feeling bored or tired and need that extra body movement and focus!

Aims of the Program
- The program helps students to stay calm, relaxed, and focused, therefore enabling them to learn more effectively during the day and to be more engaged in studying
- Introduces a range of effective coping strategies which helps to minimise the symptoms of anxiety and stress, occurring now and in the future
- Helps children to better understand themselves and what stress can do to their body and brain
- Teaches children how to train their attention, leading to increased focus and ability to learn
- Helps to develop emotional resilience and emotional intelligence skills
- Teaches children Mindfulness exercises they can use for life
- Helps to build a reservoir of strength to enable children to cope with challenges and life difficulties more effectively
- Introduces lifelong skills to manage stress and prevent stress build-up, teaches how to self-calm and self-regulate

Accreditation
The Peaceful Kids program is run in over 700 schools across Australia, as well as in hospitals, youth organisations, community organisations, and in private practice. It has been featured and presented in many podcasts and TV shows in Australia and gained a lot of positive feedback.
The program is endorsed by the Board of Studies, Teaching and Educational Standards (BOSTES) and Australian Counselling Australia (ACA). Based on evidence-based therapy and research from the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction program (MBSR), Mindfulness-integrated Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (MiBCT), Positive Psychology and Acceptance, and Commitment Therapy. It is a registered training course through Meditation Association of Australia (MA) and endorsed as a continued development course by The Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW). Research has also been conducted through EACH and evaluated by 'Save the Children' for their 'Cool for School' Program.
The program was created by Georgina Manning, the Director of Wellbeing for Kids, Australia. Georgina is a psychotherapist, educator, and counsellor. She has many years of experience working in schools supporting children and parents and facilitates regular parent seminars in schools, school professional development days for educators, and is a national speaker for wellbeing events in Australia.
